Ava Kutner is a Brooklyn based, multidisciplinary artist, originally from northern Massachusetts. Kutner currently studies studio art at New York University, working with numerous mediums, ranging from oil and acrylic paintings, to multimedia installations and works, such as sculptural pieces and short multi-sensory films. Much of her work takes a feminist approach to medical issues, examining the pressure out on afab bodies in a patriarchal world. Her recent work expresses these experiences through psychological portraits of animals rather than human figures. She uses maximalism in paintings and sculptures to mimic the discombobulation and brain fog resulting from certain women’s health issues, often related to mold exposure and heat intolerance. Kutner does not abide by the confines of the traditional, and rather forages an alternative stylistic path seen by her dynamic use of tonality and depth, as well as exaggerated features of the figures she depicts. She has recently exhibited at Connected Cozmos in fall 2023 and was part of the National arts Club student show at the National Arts Club in 2024.
